Fulfilling my purpose…

What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?

As I said previously, I have been reading many different books about spirituality and self-discovery. They all talk about aligning with our purpose in life.

I think I have found mine. While I have been at my current job for the past seven years, and I love what I do – it’s my volunteer work and my writing that motivates me to get out of bed in the morning.

I got involved with my local Democratic Party here where I live about two years ago. In this time, I have watched our party suffer some tough losses, but I am also so proud to have been part of making such big strides. I can see the change happening here in the county, and I can see the state level Party become much more organized, and really begin to support small, red counties like us. We are making positive change in our community, and I’m super proud of all we have done. In volunteering, I have also proudly been elected to the leadership team of our local chapter of Young Democrats, and I am currently serving as a campaign manager for a local county commission race. It has been incredibly fulfilling.

I had the opportunity the weekend of October 27 to attend the Florida Democrats State Convention. I felt “in my element” the entire time I was there – I learned a lot of strategies I can use for my various volunteer projects. But the best part was attending the Disability Caucus for a meeting. I met the Caucus President, and told her we do not have a chapter in my county. Long story short, I am in the process of creating a chapter of my own to serve our region of the state!

Which brings me to the point of this post. Advocating for the disabled community, for the disadvantaged, and for my generation is what I was put on this earth to do. I know I can’t change the world on my own, but I can be a voice for the voiceless. I am working on ways to be able to do that – and I feel like I have already played at least a small part in it for my local community. It is absolutely the most fulfilling thing I have ever been a part of, and I cannot wait to see where it takes me – who knows, maybe I can make a career out of it some day.
